February 7, 2007 TT PTO Meeting Minutes
Meeting began: 6:30 January Minutes accepted as written Mr. Arth spoke about receiving the Compass School Award at the state house and what an accomplishment it is for the Teaticket School. We are one of 12 elementary schools in the State to receive this award. He stated that when he started in 1995 he has strived for the pursuit of excellence with the staff, teachers and Teaticket community. Based on the data Teaticket Elementary made the AYP in regards to the MCAS scores and that having smaller class sizes is truly the key to success. He stated that it is an honor to the teachers, students, parents and community to have received this award. An assembly will be planned to celebrate being a Compass school. Kindergarten registration is moved up 1 month to begin on March 6th through the 9th, it will be held in the front lobby. The staff is ready for the Pasta Supper. Dr. Seuss night is planned for March 7th which will consist of what was done in the past, by having guest speakers, selectmen, town admin., the superintendent and teachers read Dr. Seuss books. Juice and cookies will be shared at the end. The superintendent is forming a committee for strategic planning. If interested please call Mr. Arth. Treasurer’s Report: Available for review upon request Pasta Supper: Gina Colpus-Palanza brought us up to speed. All set. We will raffle off the Innisbrook and Classic Cookie items. Reading Program: To kick off after the school break. Any questions should be brought to the March meeting. Gina Colpus-Palanza motioned that the PTO would sponsor each class room $20.00 which amounts to approx. $200.00. Deanne Rockwood seconded, all in favor, unanimous vote. Scholastic Book fair: 3/15 and 3/16 Need volunteers. We will consider having the sign up sheet for the teachers, which worked really well last time. Kelly Geist motioned to give the incentives from this book fair to the SPED department. Joy Paruch seconded, all in favor. Another motion by Kelly Geist was to sign up for 3 book fairs for the school year 2007-2008 to receive incentives from Scholastic. Joy Paruch seconded, all in favor. Scholarship: A motion from Deanne Rockwood to change the name of the Ray Kenney scholarship to the Teaticket PTO Scholarship, seconded by Terry Kellogg, voted all in favor. We would like to thank Mr. Ray Kenney for his support over the years and appreciate his contribution to this scholarship. It will award $750 to a Teaticket alumnus that is going to college. The requirements are that it needs to be a one page, typed essay of their fondest memory while attending the Teaticket Elementary school. It is open to all students that graduated from Teaticket. Art Appreciation: Carla Johnson and Gina Colpus-Palanza will start to work with the teachers and get the Art Appreciation up and running. Teacher Appreciation: Will be in June on Wed. June 6th. Looking for a chair person. Gina Colpus-Palanza stepped up and will help, as well as Kelly Crocker. Meeting Adjourned: 8:05 |
